Exploring the island of Zakynthos

Think about what you want included in your list of indispensable that make up your ideal holiday destination. Planety of sunshine, minimal opportunity rain, warm temperatures pleasant perfect sandy beaches, clear waters and warm, wide selection of hotel accommodation in apartments, lots of restaurants and cafes quality, relaxed and lively night options and with easy access for a cheap flight home. Sounds like a dream destination rare and unlikely, but for many the island of Zante (Also known as Zakynthos) is just that.

Zante is located along the west coast of southern Greece and has its place to thank for its mild climate throughout the year. Zante has been a favorite vacation destination for many Europeans since. Apart from its fabulous beaches and beautiful villages Zante also has some of the attractions summer vacation. Discovered in 1897, blue caves are well known and located on the northern tip of the island. Formed by the sea and so named because of the sparkling blue water that fills them, are often an obligatory stop for tourists to explore the island. Transport to the caves is by boat which can take about two hours for the entire trip. The trips are cheap and well worth it. Those who have made the trip suggest selecting a small boat instead of a larger one. Makes the most likely stops swimming and the boat is likely to be able to get deeper into the caves. It can be much larger water park in other parts of Europe, but water was Sarakinarda Zante Park great for a family day out. There are about ten different slides to play on visitors and suggest arriving late in the day when the coach tours have been and prices fall.

A nice way to spend the day in Zante is to visit some of the smaller beaches and villages. From Gerakas at the south end of Island Gerakas beach is said to be one of the best on the island. The beach is a protected area as important bird nesting sites nearby. Often is desert and makes a great place to relax for a while on the beach, but visitors are limited in the duration of their stay. Further up the coast is the beach of Porto Roma. This is another quiet beach, but there is less sand here. It is favored by sports so sure of a quiet day here. Recommended for the beach in this area look no further, Banana Beach. It's big, clean and very sandy, with only a small line of rocks that line the shore. There are plenty of umbrellas palm and the available area is not developed, but the choice of bars and cafes is adequate.

For those planning to move away from the beaches and pursuit of a culture little more than main town of Zakynthos ticks many boxes. Situated on the coast and home to many cruise ships visiting the city also has some very inner areas, especially some places, museums and churches. The city suffered an earthquake in 1953 and after the areas had to be rebuilt. Although the area does not experience frequent earth tremors, most recently, in February 2009 a small earthquake of 3.9 on the Richter scale was recorded south of the island. Two days earlier, another earthquake of magnitude 4.3 occurred off the island of Cephalonia. Do not let them worry though as the town of Zakynthos is well worth a visit. There are all the hills around the city offering spectacular views of everyone who wants to walk to them. Strani Hill is home to many old buildings and the ruins of an ancient Venetian church, while Bochali Hill is home to a castle, which was damaged by the earthquake of 1953 and a top range of the city. Here you can find luxury hotels and restaurants and green areas.

Zante retains its position as one of the best Greek islands, but was not thought to be detrimental to its original charm and culture.
