The truth about Lloret De Mar! It's a Little Taste of Paradise
You can get to Lloret de Mar on the Costa Brava to fly to Barcelona or Girona airports. Gerona is 40k from the coast and takes about 40 minutes to get there, but Barcelona is about 90k away and takes approximately one hour transfer to Lloret.
The main coastal towns near Lloret de Mar Roses are, Tossa de Mar, Santa Susana, Calella, Pineda, Malgrat and Blanes.
What are the hotels like? There are all kinds of hotel and apartment complex you can imagine in Lloret. All services including hotels, apartments, hostel, a small tent city and probably many other places too.
We stayed in the apartments Blau halfway down the street and high-Lloret, Hotel Rosamar, located in the opposite side of all the shops and narrow streets near the beach.
Our room at the Blau was pretty nice, refrigerator and TV, balcony and good bathroom size, but quite noisy when it is above the main street. Staff not very nice apartments and poor facilities. There is a small indoor pool filled with children and the laundry service will consist of a washing machine in a room, which was flooded forever.
The most important sign was to have a supermarket next door. The supermarket had everything we needed as we went along with kitchen, and I could not get it just had to take a short walk to the main street.
The Rosamar hotel was quite different though. The room was very basic and the general atmosphere of the hotel was depressing. My wife and I decided to go half board this time, thinking he could save on the dishes, cleaning the apartment etc.
big mistake! The food was terrible and very poor quality for the whole two weeks, but because it was so cheap to eat out, we had many meals out at night and some breakfasts we jumped up and went to our favorite restaurant pizza for brunch near the hotel. Sat ensure the beach, sun beating down, a large jug of sangria, aaah yes, the paradise in Lloret.
However, the Rosamar had a nice big pool, plenty of sun loungers and parasols, Jacuzzi, gym, sauna and children's activities. The nightly entertainment at the hotel was varied and lively. We met a great couple called Graham and Romero, spent many nights with them sat on the corner of the entertainment room drinking and talking to morning.
What night life? Lloret's nightlife is wild! There are plenty of English pubs and clubs run by people, the most popular probably in the Queen Vic, Texas and the Seven Seas. There was a pub called The White Horse, but this is now closed.
You can even find a few theme bars in Lloret. A rock bar, nightclub, nightclubs open until 4 or 5 am, Rockafella is one and not go to the Flamingo hotel unless you want to see a bit more meat than you normally would in a public place. There are places and burger kebab houses open all night not too mention all the fast food restaurants open all the time.
And daylife ...? Daily life is very relaxed. The Costa Brava may have a reputation of being the wild and rugged coast of Spain, but remember this is Spain and around Spain is slow and does not miss an afternoon nap. If you have children, take them to the water park in Lloret, is fantastic and you can easily spend a whole day there. There is a center of marine life, and there are some fantastic bays and beaches to visit all of Lloret.
The best way to reach all the bays and inlets for water taxi is a very reasonable price. You will not regret their little trips up and down the coast, the coast is amazing! Tossa de Mar, Santa Susana, Santa Cristina, Blanes and others. Our favorite? Santa Cristina, there can be few places in the world where there is a sandy beach, restaurant and bar and fast food in one place, with not too many people? Sounds too good to be true, but it is not!
As you cruise up and down the coast you will see old castles, cliffs and churches can be seen for miles. They have glass bottom boats for visiting the uninhabited islands of the coast where a lot of marine life to look under Boat, fish, octopus, etc. .. or you can sit on the floor above, see everything, and have an ice cream or a soda.
If you are a morning or an afternoon off, old church right in the center of Lloret is beautiful. See if you can enter. Will not let you take pictures, but it's worth the trouble to talk to the person in charge to obtain a look inside.
We took a trip on the little train that makes the rounds on the streets. Thinking it was a way to kill an hour and would be an opportunity for a kip in the afternoon, we were pleasantly surprised. After five minutes we were going to Lloret and into the hills. The little train took us past villages and impressive the view from the top of the hill was awesome. A man carrying a video camera and you can buy a video of the whole experience, a great souvenir to take home.
If you want to leave Lloret for a day, try, Montserrat, Andorra, Barcelona, Vic, and one or two other places far from Lloret, but close enough away for a day trip. I recommend the above, especially Barcelona. If you go there, visit the church of Goudy, the football stadium and the kids will love the zoo. While eating in the cafeteria at the zoo, you can see the giraffes up close and personal.
In the bottom of the street of Lloret high there is a carousel and children up to the top of the main street is an adult carousel. Could probably take the kids on both, but the one in the top of the street is covered twice and has a cozy atmosphere Cinderella coach.
