On the Big Island of Hawaii, Hapuna Beach is my favorite place to go. This beach is located 30 miles north of Kailua-Kona, motorway exit 19.
Hapuna Beach was ranked as the best beach in the United States and one of the best beaches in the world by several travel magazines. This beach is located half a mile long, with beautiful beaches white sand. The water is so clean and clear, you can see your toes when Wade in. There are nice facilities, including showers. It gets very crowded on weekends and days holidays. Your best bet is to go during the week. There is plenty of parking and a grassy area for picnics.
During calm seas, this is an excellent beach swimming in it. Beware of high waves and wind. These make bathing dangerous. The southern end of the beach is the safest for swimming. Hapuna not get windy almost all afternoon.
There is not much shade on this beach, so bring your umbrella! The Hapuna Beach Prince Hotel is the water is full of beautiful fish and coral. Sure consult a calm sea before leaving. When the waves are big, you will see a lot of surfers and body boarders. The quiet day, this is an excellent place to start to learn to surf. Just be careful of strong currents! In the winter when the surf is high, there are dangerous currents and strong waves break. Only experts Hapuna, but not always.
The Hapuna Beach State Recreation Area has cabins for rent A-framed and a snack bar. The Hapuna Beach Prince Hotel is right on the beach. This is a beautiful place to stay.
