Stay Safe in the Sun

This article is from my family, United Kingdom .

Relax in the sun may seem like paradise to us starved Britons by the sun, but overexposure to UV rays in sunlight can cause painful sunburn and more serious medical problems.

Hazards

Here are some things to keep in account when sunbathing. All these dangers can ruin a holiday and harm your health.

1) A sunburn and skin damage

Beware of red and painful skin that is warm to the touch. This afternoon you can peel or blister in more severe cases. Prolonged exposure to sunlight can also damage the skin and premature skin aging.

2) Heat exhaustion

The increase in body temperature and dehydration result of exposure to excessive heat can cause heat exhaustion. Symptoms include headache, dizziness, nausea, tiredness, loss of appetite and fever. Severe cases can lead to heat stroke, which may require hospitalization.

3) skin cancer

The risk of developing skin cancer in adulthood also increased by exposure to UV light. Beware of shock, injury or discoloration of the skin that does not heal and new moles or moles that change appearance.

Treatment

Take affected person to a cool place out of the sun and give them plenty of fluids. Cover the skin with loose cotton clothing until symptoms improve. mild sunburn sponge with warm water and use sun or calamine lotion to cool and rehydrate the skin. Consult a doctor or ring NHS Direct on 0845 4647 if a baby or toddler is burned, or if more severe symptoms such as rash, or fever blisters appear.

Prevention

Anticipating the above problems with these tips.

1) Stay in the shade

  • Children have more sensitive skin than adults, so that infants and Very young children should be kept out of the sun - those with pale skin and hair are also more at risk
  • Avoid exposure during hottest hours of the day when the sun's rays are strongest (11 am-3 pm)
  • Cover up with hats, umbrellas, loose clothing and sunglasses with protection UV

2) Use sunscreen

  • Use sunscreen with an SPF (Factor Solar Protection) of at least 15. The higher the SPF, the more protection it will provide.
  • Try to get a broad spectrum sun cream - and as SPF, which only tells you about the protection against UVB light, are also in protecting against UVA rays indicated by a set of five stars
  • Be sure to apply enough cream (follow manufacturer's instructions) and use a waterproof sunscreen if you or your family goes swimming.
  • Apply the cream 15-30 minutes before sun exposure and reapply every two hours
  • Beware of burning even on cloudy days and in cooler climates - The effects of sunburn can be diminished by a cool breeze or swim

3) Keep hydrated

  • It helps the body regulate its temperature and keep hydrated by drinking plenty of fluids - alcohol and caffeinated beverages do not count
  • Avoid activity in the heat if you're not used to it, and slowly adjust to hot temperatures when you go on vacation.
