Publishers Guide Ocean City, Maryland

Holiday Planner:

After visiting Ocean City like a child than a father, and now living here with my grandchildren gave me a unique look at what Ocean City has to offer. From a day trip to annual leave I to offer my advice on things I've enjoyed over the years.

Things have changed over 50 years, but not as much as you may think. Have back been the dunes and desert, and that there were north of 60th Street as a child. They have been replaced by high rise condominiums, shopping centers, hotels, restaurants and residential buildings of all possible configurations.

The promenade extends from the time of entry into the extreme south of the city of Mar to 26th Street. Most of the "action" is 4-South street. If you want to stay where the action I recommend staying on the waterfront. This is a large area if you have teenagers or like the hustle and bustle of the atmosphere. Even the waterfront can be divided by how much the action you want. More far reaches of the most relaxed entry becomes the promenade. See my article, accommodation For a complete list of what each area of Ocean City is like.

Although not everyone likes the same entertainment, I will assume that the reason principal to come to Ocean City is the ocean. Our beaches are very consistent over Ocean City with extensions rather large, very clean, and lifeguards stationed each block with communications systems that connects all the beach. The only major exception to this is the input to about 6th Street, this area is an area very wide beach with volleyball and playgrounds. This is good for daily visitors and children, but difficult for the elderly and the disabled. Access to the beach from the end of the promenade-north is limited to paths through the sand dunes at the end of every street. Rental of chairs, umbrellas, boogie boards and are available in every input block to the beach (as of this writing). There are plenty of places to eat along the waterfront, but to make other plans for lunch if you stay off the promenade. View beach rules list of do's and don'ts.

To get away from the action and have a relaxing day at the beach I recommend Assateague Island State and Assateague Island National Park. Although the royal park begins at the entrance have to drive about 15 minutes to reach the entrance to the parks. Take Route 50 west of Route 611 south. Route 611 ends at Assateague Island. Here is the State Park and National Park. The state park is more expensive to enter, but has a snack bar. I personally prefer the National Park because it has more to offer. Although the state park is limited to a snack bar, the National Park has with canoe rentals, hiking, a crab fishing pier and a 4-wheel drive only area (requires permission). Fires are permitted on the beach at night from the low tide line to the high water mark. Both areas offer lifeguards beaches, picnic tables, grills, restrooms and showers. Campsites are available in both parks, but advanced reservations are almost always required.

Entertainment does not stop at the beach.

The promenade offers rides, games, galleries, shops, and food for the child during that all of us. Again, the action centers from one street to the entrance. To entertain children and children in the background I would suggest Splash Mountain on 30th Street and Coast Highway. There are several types of slides, a lazy river, swimming pool wave, coffee shops, and my favorite of the rainforest. The Rain Forest is fun for everyone, has super-sized toy guns to shoot people as they walk (My favorite-I get into battle with people from 6 to 60), water slides, a giant pirate hat that gradually fills and dumps its contents below, above all, and water guns at you from everywhere. Trust me, this giant version of water the size of a jungle gym is worth the price of admission by itself. It so fun that rescuers wear hats and rain coats.

There are numerous ski race for all ages and miniature golf courses offering something for everyone. For a complete list of fun things to do, visit our entertainment.

For adults there are clubs for all age groups and bars with many subjects. Seacrets is as popular with young adults who have their own radio station, while the island is popular Fager more sophisticated. Through it all, from karaoke to beach bars.

A rainy day can be spent, going to movies, go shopping, visit the indoor pool located in many hotels, sitting on your balcony overlooking the sea, taking a day trip to historic Berlin, Maryland, or simply enjoy a long lunch in a restaurant facing the sea.

Dinner in Ocean City for most of us is a sort of Family Feud. There are so many options and no one ever feels like the same thing at the same time. My family began to discuss plans early for dinner reservations can be made if necessary. During the high season note that the lines at popular restaurants can be long (even if the food is so-so). My personal recommendations are: 1-Marina Deck, an excellent soup with crab and seafood, and is in the water two-Waterman's Seafood Restaurant, the feast of crab and seafood Nick very good original three-House of ribs, very good ribs and beef 4-Harpoon Hanna's, seafood well and water (service a bit slow) 5-Crabcake Factory USA, crab cakes the best, six-Higgins Crab House, crabs very good and good seafood, 7-Bull on the beach, meat and excellent pit stops good meat, Italian restaurant, 8-Adolofo excellent Italian dishes (expensive), 9-Embers Restaurant, very good seafood and prime rib buffet, 10-Ponzetti's Pizza, my favorite pizza, 11-Lombardi, another good pizza and an Italian restaurant, 12-Sakura, excellent house Japanese restaurant, 13-Phillip's Crab House, good seafood (worth worth visiting, but not the best seafood in Ocean City), 14-Outback Steakhouse, which receives the same food at home, but it's good when you get tired of trying new places. These are my favorite restaurants. There are many great choices and many different ideas about what good food is. A good restaurant for me is a combination of very good to excellent food at reasonable prices, good service and a varied menu for the whole family. Please leave comments for the restaurants you visit during your stay to help others choose a good restaurant.
