Fun Crafts for Kids: Create your own terrarium

Terrariums have existed for years but have gained much popularity recently in the world interior decoration. They are a fascinating example of a self-sustaining ecosystem and, depending on how decorate a fashion statement for the home. They are also a great teaching tool for children. Make a terrarium can be a fun project for you and your child to do together that can then be displayed either in your room or as a centerpiece in a family common room. The best part is that it is a piece of furniture that is constantly changing. You can even change some of the plants or objects the terrarium based on changes in the tastes of his son. So, here's what you need to create your own terrarium:

1. Soil

2. Shingle

3. Activated carbon

4. Moss

5. Glass container (either an open or a container with a lid. Closed containers may be more difficult to hold but can be more rewarding to teach children about ecosystems).

6. Several plants

7. Fun items

Instructions

1. Put a one inch layer of pebbles at the bottom of the container.
2. Put a half inch layer of activated charcoal on the top right of the pebbles. Coal is not absolutely necessary, but will help filter the water.
3. Put a layer of Sphagnum moss on top of coal. This is optional but strong and dry Sphagnum and keep the soil from falling into the rocks below.
4. Put a layer of soil on top of all this about two or three inches thick.
5. Poke small holes in the ground instead of all plants in the soil.
6. Place objects around the plants for a festive look. If you're more in a look dull, use sand instead of soil and plants that grow well in buying this kind of weather. You can customize with beach chairs or toys tiny beings Tues
7. The terrarium water and cover a moderate amount. Look in the coming days. Water only when soil is drying. If you have more water and then left uncovered for water to evaporate. If your terrarium is not closed, ignored these final instructions.

For more information about the teaching of children about ecosystems, I found this great website called Castle.com storm. They also have plenty of other good ideas for science projects fun!
